Cider House Rules

I have wanted to see this movie for a long time. I really didn't know anything about it but I heard it was good. The story is set in Maine in an orphanage. Michael Kane is the doctor and also helps run the orphanage. Many women come to him for help or to give up their babies.Toby Maguire is an orphan who has grown up helping the doctor and has gradually learned to be a doctor himself. At some point he decides to go out and see the world.  He works on an apple farm and meets a beautiful girl played by Charlize Theron. They fall in love and he is happy for awhile, but then things start to go down hill. I really enjoyed this movie and I have always been a great fan of Toby Maguire, I think he was perfect for the role. Charlize Theron is really good too but for some reason it is hard for me to see them together as a couple.

Lincoln and Argo

Movies, Movies, Movies, where would we be without them? Not sure about you but I would be depressed! I recently saw the movies Lincoln and Argo. I loved Argo even though I didn't really want to see it to start with, but my husband did so being the cooperative spouse that I am (ha-ha) I went. I thought it was really an amazing story, hard to believe it  really happened. The characters were so convincing, and the cast had many of my favorites in it. And Lincoln, oh wow, Daniel Day Lewis took my breath away! I never once thought I was watching an actor, he  really was Abraham Lincoln. The movie is a little slow but I so love anything historical so I enjoyed it. I loved Sally Fields too, very convincing as Mary Lincoln.

Justified

I know this blog is supposed to be about movies but I just had to mention a show I recently started watching. It is called "Justified" on FX channel starring Tim Olyphant who is one awesome dude!! His character works in Kentucky as a Marshall and the story lines and the writing are just super interesting. The characters have been fleshed out so they seem very real. And even though there is a new story every week there is also a continuing story line.

check it out on:

two movies

I received two Netflix yesterday and watched them both! The first was 127 Hours and the second was A Single Man. I am sure you all know what 127 hours is about. I really enjoyed it but had to fast forward through the cutting off the arm scenes. It is a really an incredible story of bravery and survival. The second movie A Single Man stars Colin Ferth as a gay man whose partner is killed in a car accident, it also stars Julianne Moore who is not my favorite actress but she is good in this, Colin Ferth is just the greatest actor, he is so convincing in this role, I enjoyed this movie too although it is a little slow paced.

Clint Eastwood

I have always loved Clint Eastwood but never got into his old 'Spaghetti Westerns". Finally gave one another chance and watched "The Good, the Bad and The Ugly" last night. I was very surprised at how good it was,Clint is so young in it, and Eli Wallach is fantastic as "the Ugly".
